Moravia, Alberto

   Italian novelist. Born in Rome to a Jewish father, he was baptized by his Catholic mother. In the 1930s he worked as a journalist in various parts of the world. After the war, he was regarded as one of the outstanding writers in Europe. His writings include The Age of Indifference, The Conformist, The Woman of Rome and The Two of Us. He was married to Elsa Morante, a well-known Italian writer.
